Contemporary Botanical, Natural History and Landscape Artist
An inveterate collector and curator, Gael Sellwood uses her collection of found natural history objects alongside plants and flowers from the garden and hedgerow in her artwork. Her landscapes are inspired by open skies, open roads and the English countryside; she captures a moment in time and place.

She is a creative; a natural history and botanical artist and maker.
As well as being a skilled and experienced painter she is also a needle woman of both hand and machine stitched textiles and knitwear. Colour and texture are woven through everything she does and makes.
Meticulous by nature, she has written a book detailing her observations of the garden and landscape through the seasons. “THE MEASURE OF THE YEAR” contains images of over 150 paintings and connects landscape inspirations with the desire to explore plants and found natural objects in paint on paper or vellum. The book is aimed at those who relish gardens, the landscape as places of creativeness and who appreciate images of flowers and found natural history objects.
Thorough and determined, Gael has realised earlier aims for her work (having gold medals and work acquired by national and international collections). However, the journey continues. The path may change along with the landscape and, more influenced than ever by the world around her, she has lifted her eyes to new horizons.
SEE MY STORY
Journal
An inveterate collector, I collect views, thoughts, ideas, inspiration, hopes, colours, textures and ephemera. Gael cares for worn items which have had a life and which deserve to be treasured and embraced, reminding us of the transient nature of life.
These items remind of past traditions, skills and values, which still resonate with me.
